Our producers:
Most of our artisans are disabled single mother, poor students and home
workers who come from poor communities.
Please meet some of our skilled artisans:
1. Mr Chea, 32, He lives with a broken limb when he fell from the tree at the age of 13.
Despite this accident, he did not allow his disabilitity to paralyse him from pursuing his
dream In 2008 , he was given a chance to study wood carving skills. Since 2007, he has
been working with Khmer Life as a carpenter. In 2008, he was given a chance to study
wood skills and is now a teacher who oversees a small group of craftmen. Mr Chea:
" I am very happy to work in Khmer Life because i can use my knowledge to train others
and they can earn some money to support their families."
2. Mrs. Joun, 54 , a single mother, works as a full-time with Khmer Life as a designer
and pattern-maker since year 2011. She was very glad to work there because she
could teach skills to the young ladies, single mothers and the poor villagers on how
to sew all kinds of bags. After they have finished the course and aquired the skills, they
can produce nice bags/products and earn money to support their children and family.
Her hope for the future is to use her skills to train more people to help make their
lives better.
3. Mr La, 35 years old, has lived with a disability caused by polio since the age of 5.
When he was young he went to school just like other children in his village.
However he could not walk by himself, it was his sister who helped to carry him to
school. Now he is married with two sons and lives in Phnom Penh. He works with
Khmer Life since 2011 as a designer and pattern – maker . Now his twosons
can go to a school near his workplace. He was delighted to work with Khmer Life
because he can work and stay together with his family. He would like to encourage
people to show their support for the good works done by Khmer Life by purchasing
products handmade with love from the people who are under the care of Khmer life.
4. Sothea, 22, is a poor university student in his third year of studies in IT in the Local University in Phnom Penh. After he passed his high school he needed to go to the city to continue his studies in the University. City was a new land for him and he did not
know anybody. After some time, he came to know about Khmer Life and now ,he is
staying and working with Khmer Life. Khmer life provided him a full-time job which
enable him to attend evening classes. He said that staying and working in Khmer-
Life has helped him a lot, and spared him from spending much on his daily
expenses. Khmer Life provides him food, accommodation and salary. As he is spared
from spending on daily expenses, he could now save some money to buy his text
books and do other things. In the future, he wants to have his own computer repair
shop, contribute back to his family and help other people.
